On Tuesday 31st October, Tim Morel will host Kennedy Cater’s Autumn Seminar, “Housing Associations and Legal Services”, the first one that we will have run in the North-East.
In this seminar, Tim will be joined by two leading figures in the social housing legal sector, Alice Richardson and Katrina Robinson:
Alice Richardson is a specialist housing barrister from Trinity Chambers. Alice will deliver a practical and current Housing Association focused legal update.
Before becoming a barrister, Alice worked as a housing advisor specialising in homelessness and community care. She has a particular interest in cases involving discrimination, human rights, capacity and Judicial Review. She is regularly instructed by Housing Associations, local authorities and private landlords in a wide range of housing cases including possession, allocations, unlawful eviction, disrepair, succession and assignment.
Katrina Robinson MBE is the Head of Legal Services and Data Protection Officer at Optivo which has 44,000 homes across London, the Midlands and Sussex.
Katrina specialises in combatting anti-social behaviour and tenancy fraud and was awarded an MBE for services to social housing in the New Year’s Honours List in 2016. She also oversees the spend on external legal services.
Katrina will be sharing her thoughts on Tenancy Fraud - why housing associations should be actively involved in combatting it, and the practical steps that they can take.
The seminar is aimed at senior management of Housing Associations across the North-East, and aims to show how they can achieve sustainable efficiency and costs savings by procuring and managing external legal suppliers more effectively. This is not simply about driving down the prices charged by suppliers, but will include issues such as:
-the procurement strategy for choosing external legal suppliers
-how to establish internal contracts to ensure external instructions are appropriate and effective
-ongoing contract management and performance information
-what can go wrong if poor processes are in place, and how to bring back control
